The meeting participants discussed legal aspects of protecting children’s rights on the international stage. They agreed that Russia should develop a consolidated approach to joining the 2007 Convention on the International Recovery of Child Support and Other Forms of Family Maintenance, coordinate approaches to the search for and return to Russia of children who were taken out of the country without authorisation, and to the delineation of competencies of the Human Rights Commissioner, the Education and Science Ministry and the Foreign Ministry in cases falling under the jurisdiction of the 1996 Hague Convention on Jurisdiction, Applicable Law, Recognition, Enforcement and Cooperation in Respect of Parental Responsibility and Measures for the Protection of Children.
The meeting was attended by Foreign Ministry Commissioner for Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law Konstantin Dolgov, Deputy Director of the Department of International Law and Cooperation at the Justice Ministry Valery Lysak, and Deputy Director of the Department for State Policy on Children’s Rights at the Education and Science Ministry Irina Romanova.
