Meeting of State Council Presidium working group on Russian Far East development

Presidential Aide and State Council Secretary Igor Levitin chaired the first meeting of the working group to prepare a State Council Presidium meeting on the development of the Russian Far East.

Khabarovsk Region Governor Vyacheslav Shport Shport Vyacheslav Shport Vyacheslav , who headed the working group, updated the meeting participants on the group’s goals and tasks in preparing the report for the State Council Presidium.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District Background information Far Eastern Federal District (FEFD) Yuri Trutnev Trutnev Yury Trutnev YuryDeputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Russian Federation – Plenipotentiary Presidential Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District , representatives of the concerned federal executive agencies, Far Eastern governors Alexander Kozlov Kozlov Alexander Kozlov AlexanderMinister of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation (Amur Region) and Vladimir Pecheny Pecheny Vladimir Pecheny Vladimir (Magadan Region), as well as experts and researchers.

Deputy Minister for Far East Development Alexander Krutikov, who chairs the drafting group, spoke about the concept of the report.

Meeting participants pointed out that the Far East has always played a special role in Russia’s development, and that a new system of management suited to the goal of accelerated development of the Russian Far East must be created.

The development model for the Far East was first proposed in 2013. In the relatively short time since then, the authorities have adopted measures to facilitate the development of the Far East and created instruments to encourage investment there.

The participants agreed that at this point it is necessary to assess the results and discuss the implementation and effectiveness of decisions taken to enhance the competitiveness and business appeal of the Far East and to increase people’s wellbeing, as well as to prepare proposals on the further development of support mechanisms for the Far East.

The working group will discuss the main aspects of the draft report at its second meeting in July 2017.
