The officials discussed the possibility of broadening cooperation in the fight against climate change and ways to adapt to its unfavourable consequences. They also considered the modality of preparations for the 26th UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, to be held in November 2021 in Glasgow, UK, and joint activities within the framework of Italy’s Presidency of the G20 in 2021. Opportunities to promote interaction on climate issues were discussed in the context of the Russian-French Cross-Year of Regional Cooperation planned for 2021.
Presidential Aide Ruslan Edelgeriyev urged Russia’s international partners to focus on the most important aspects of the implementation of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. Russia believes that climate change discussions must be immune to political differences and free from unilateral protectionist measures.
The sides expressed readiness to continue cooperation on climate issues.
