The meeting was chaired by Presidential Aide and State Council Secretary Igor Levitin and Head of the Republic of Buryatia, head of the State Council working group on transport Alexei Tsydenov. Taking part in the event were Acting Minister of Transport Alexander Neradko, Omsk Region Governor Alexander Burkov, Kursk Region Governor Roman Starovoit, Nizhny Novgorod Region Governor Gleb Nikitin, as well as representatives of federal and regional authorities and members of the professional and expert communities.
The participants discussed three subjects: the possibility of preserving state and municipal companies for road transportation of passengers and cargo; the demand for cargo transportation by destination based on information supplied by the regions; the current state and development of inland water transport in Russia and the implementation of the Presidential instruction on drafting a national project for inland water transport development.
The agenda’s main topic concerned the current state and development of inland water transport and the drafting of a corresponding national project. During the discussion, the participants emphasised the importance of this kind of transport for regional connectivity and development, for the delivery of cargo and passengers to the Extreme North, as well as its cost effectiveness and environmental safety.
Representatives of the Transport Ministry and others taking part at the meeting also spoke about ensuring the integrity of the national transport system.
