The Council for the Development and Support of Maritime Activities of the Maritime Board of Russia held its first meeting, which was chaired by Presidential Aide, Chairman of the Maritime Board Nikolai Patrushev and Head of the Council, Head of the Presidential Directorate for National Maritime Policy Sergei Vakhrukov.
The meeting participants discussed matters of improving public administration of maritime activities of the Russian Federation. The emphasis was placed on improving coordination of activities of public authorities and organisations. Special attention was paid to interaction with coastal regions that are home to port facilities, ship repair and shipbuilding plants, and other maritime potential facilities.
A proposal was advanced to analyse the existing strategic planning documents aimed at expanding and supporting the maritime activities and amend them, if necessary. A decision was taken to finalise draft federal law on public administration of maritime activities of the Russian Federation.
In addition, the participants reviewed state policy in the sphere of maritime spatial planning, effective siting of shipbuilding enterprises and port infrastructure, and touched upon the protection of the marine environment and preserving its biodiversity, as well as ensuring safe navigation.
Tasks were set concerning the organisation of forecasting, identifying and assessing threats to national security in the sphere of maritime activities.
