Talks were held with representatives of Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, China, Colombia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Mexico, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, Turkiye, Uzbekistan, the United Arab Emirates, and Venezuela. Direct dialogue was also established with several member states of the European Union.
During the talks, the parties discussed key aspects of the new collective quantitative target for climate finance, prospects for cooperation in developing the carbon market, implementing joint climate projects, and in a wide range of other areas.
Special focus was placed on the role of hydrocarbons in the global energy transition, as well as the importance of free access to low-carbon development technologies. At each meeting, the Presidential Aide stressed that all countries, regardless of political differences, needed to maintain dialogue due to the existential significance of the climate change problem.
Following the talks, understanding was reached on all important points on the agenda of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties in Baku.
During the meetings, Ruslan Edelgeriyev suggested that his foreign colleagues help facilitate international youth scientific cooperation, including through exchanges involving young scientists and by holding joint conferences on the Sirius platform, which evoked an interest among his counterparts.
Work on the bilateral track helped harmonize the positions of Russia and many other countries and to reach fairer and more balanced agreements on climate finance and the exclusion of fossil fuel-related language from the final texts of the conference in Baku.
