During a meeting with head of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area Dmitry Artyukhov, the Commissioner presented the preliminary findings of the national inspection of the system for the prevention of social orphanhood in the region.
Maria Lvova-Belova said that the inspection team had analysed the work of local institutions, guardianship offices and commissions for juvenile affairs, and the status of implementation of state programmes and assignments in the region.
There are not many children permanently living in children’s institutions on the Yamal Peninsula, because the majority of children are being raised in families. At the same time, the number of parents deprived of or restricted in their parental rights has increased. The number of children living outside their own families is higher in the region than the national average.
Together with the Head of the region, the Commissioner took part in an expanded meeting with heads of institutions of the social orphanhood prevention system, during which she provided several recommendations.
Maria Lvova-Belova also visited the Doveriye (Trust) social services centre and met with a single father of six sons and a daughter.
