The Sura Courage project is intended to help amputee servicemen undergo a course of psychologic and social rehabilitation after sustaining injuries and obtain skills that may come in handy for engaging in new professions.
Maria Lvova-Belova pointed out the special role of the family as a support for each person. Participants in the special military operation, especially those who were injured or got a disability, are in need of special support and care from their relatives. She emphasised that the project had been launched at the families’ request to set up a comprehensive social, domestic and psychological rehabilitation for special military operation participants who sustained serious injuries. The rehabilitation has been organised in the Novye Berega inclusive estate on the basis of the Louis Quarter charity organisation.
According to the Commissioner, the project will be supervised by veterans of the Union of Donbass Volunteers; a programme of physiotherapy and counselling will be developed for each fighter and special attention will be given to their inclusive sports and tourism activities. Orthodox believers will be able to get spiritual guidance in the church on the territory of the art estate. Maria Lvova-Belova said that the first ten programme participants have already arrived at the Novye Berega.
Oleg Melnichenko emphasised that the comprehensive programme for the servicemen will be constantly improved to meet the combatants’ needs.
During her working trip Maria Lvova-Belova also visited the Saving Hope centre for families in difficult circumstances.
