Meeting of Russia’s Maritime Board

A meeting of the Maritime Board of the Russian Federation was held in Moscow.

March 31, 2026
18:00

It was chaired by Presidential Aide Nikolai Patrushev Patrushev Nikolai Patrushev NikolaiAide to the President .

Comprehensive assessment of Russia’s national security in the sphere of maritime activities and proposals to ensure it were discussed.

It was noted that the global military political environment is marked by the erosion of international law and increasing threats to Russia’s national security, including those originating from the maritime sphere. In response to these challenges, particular emphasis was placed on ensuring adequate funding for the implementation of the Strategy for the Development of the Navy until 2050 and on completing the naval shipbuilding programme. Additional measures were proposed to expand the production capacity of shipyards, modernise facilities, and carry out their technical upgrade and modernisation. Ensuring the production of domestically manufactured marine components was also considered.

The discussion addressed measures to enhance navigation safety along strategically important sea routes. In the context of building a new international transport and logistics architecture based on safe and sustainable routes, instructions were issued to develop a comprehensive project titled Development of the Arctic and the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor. The Maritime Board expects that its implementation will facilitate comprehensive development of the Russian Arctic and the Russian Far East, the expansion of cargo base and domestic, international, and transit transportation of goods and passengers along the country’s coastline.

In addition, the Board identified priority areas for research, development and engineering of modern ships and vessels, and the creation of advanced marine technology, equipment, and advanced solutions for the development of the World ocean resources and spaces.
