At the meeting, the establishment of the Council Commission for Harmonisation of Interethnic and Interfaith Relations was announced. The commission includes representatives of various faiths.
The meeting discussed measures to strengthen interreligious and interethnic harmony in society and progress in implementing Presidential instructions to test an integrated course Fundamentals of Religious Cultures and Secular Ethics for general education secondary schools.
Following the meeting, the Council adopted a statement which says that the harmonisation of interethnic relations is a key to the nation’s prosperity, and it can be achieved by educating people on minority cultures through schools, the media and cultural events. Particular attention should be paid to teaching spiritual and civic values to the younger generation. Council members believe that religious leaders’ active involvement with the media can be factor of social stability.
