Dmitry Medvedev informed the Justice Minister that amendments to the Criminal Code had been submitted to the State Duma. In particular, the draft law introduces a new form of punishment: compulsory works. In addition, the document sets out new penalties for certain crimes that do not pose a great danger to society.
The changes apply to financial crimes and drug trafficking offences. The draft law stipulates introducing fines as an alternative punishment for financial crimes, equal to 400% of the damage incurred. With regard to drug offences committed by drug addicts, the draft law provides for the punishment in the form of compulsory medical treatment.
Separately Dmitry Medvedev and Alexander Konovalov discussed the Justice Ministry’s proposal to establish a special agency for the execution of non-custodial sentences in Russia.
