Among the issues discussed were the social and economic situation in the republic, the introduction of a new wage payment system for teachers, and preparations for the new school year.
Mr Kanokov said that the agricultural processing sector, industrial activity, and the health and resort sector are all developing rapidly in the republic. The main problem, in Mr Kanokov’s view, is a lack of investment.
Answering Mr Medvedev’s question about investors currently working in the republic, Mr Kanokov said that Kabardino-Balkaria has signed an agreement with Interros to develop the north face of the Mt Elbrus area, and is in talks with Rosneft on building an oil refinery.
Reporting on the republic’s preparations for the new school year, Mr Kanokov said that 95 percent of Kabardino-Balkaria’s schools are ready for the start of classes.
