The parties exchanged views on topical international policy issues. The heads of state paid particular attention to the prospects for a Middle Eastern peace settlement, the normalization of the situation in Iraq, the implementation of the Doha Agreement on Lebanon, as well as resolving the situation surrounding the Iranian nuclear programme. The Presidents of Russia and Syria also discussed the situation in the Caucasus. Dmitry Medvedev expressed his gratitude to the President of Syria for supporting Moscow during the Georgian-South Ossetian conflict.
