Russia’s future relations with NATO were the subject of discussion. Mr Rogozin reported to the President on changes to the extent and timetable for Russia’s cooperation with NATO.
Mr Rogozin was recalled from Brussels for consultations after the NATO foreign ministers made a statement on the situation in Georgia on August 19, 2008, in which they declared that relations with Russia cannot remain as previously after the events in South Ossetia. NATO officially notified Moscow that it was freezing military cooperation programmes on August 23, 2008.
