Dmitry Medvedev and President of Tajikistan Emomali Rakhmon discussed promising areas for trade and economic cooperation, including cooperation in the fields of hydroelectricity, gas, military-technical cooperation and the humanitarian sphere. An exchange of views took place on regional political issues, the situation in the Central Asian region and Afghanistan, and work within the framework of the regional groupings – the CIS, Eurasian Economic Community, Collective Security Treaty Organisation and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.
The two Presidents signed a joint declaration following their talks. Five agreements were signed in the Presidents’ presence: an intergovernmental agreement on mutual protection of intellectual property rights used and obtained during bilateral military-technical cooperation; an inter-ministerial agreement on cultural cooperation; an agreement on the establishment and operation of the Pamir-Chakaltai International Scientific Research Centre; an inter-ministerial agreement on cooperation in the agribusiness sector; and a memorandum of understanding between OAO INTER RAO UES and Tajikistan’s Ministry of Energy and Industry on cooperation in developing new energy projects in the Republic of Tajikistan.

Before the talks began Mr Medvedev laid a wreath at the National Unity and Renaissance of Tajikistan Memorial.
