In keeping with tradition the names of the winners of the Russian National Awards were announced at a special briefing in the Kremlin. President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Yuri Osipov and Director of the State Hermitage Museum Mikhail Piotrovsky read out the relevant presidential decrees.
The National Award in Science and Technology was awarded to:
Vladimir ARNOLD – for his outstanding contribution to the development of mathematics;
Andrei ZALIZNYAK – for his outstanding contribution to the development of linguistics;
Alexei KHOKHLOV – for fundamental research in the science of polymers.
The National Award in Literature and Art was awarded to:
Vladimir GRITSENKO, Andrei NAUMOV, and Vladimir DANILOV, employees of the State Museum of Military History and Natural Preserve The Kulikovo Field – for the artistic expression of important events of Russian history, the preservation of historical-cultural and natural heritage, and for their contribution to the patriotic education of Russian citizens;
Andrei KOVALCHUK, sculptor — for creating meaningful, patriotic sculptures and for his contribution to the development of the Russian tradition of plastic arts;
Alisa FREYNDLIKH, theatre and film actress – for creating artistic images that have become classics of Russian theatre and film.
The National Award for Outstanding Humanitarian Achievements was awarded to Former President of the Republic of France Jacques Chirac.
As usual, the National Awards ceremony will be held on June 12, the Day of Russia.
