The President visited the submarine base of the Pacific Fleet in Krasheninnikov Bay in Kamchatka, and toured the strategic nuclear cruiser submarine St George the Victorious which is equipped with intercontinental ballistic missiles, antisubmarine torpedoes and antisurface ship torpedoes.
The Supreme Commander toured the submarine’s main command post which controls the ship as well as its missiles and torpedoes.
During a half-hour interview crew members were able to ask Dmitry Medvedev about his plans to modernise the Armed Forces, about social issues such as housing and wages for servicemen, and about Kamchatka’s development prospects.
The President was accompanied by Defence Minister Anatoly Serdyukov and the Commander of the Pacific Fleet Vice Admiral Konstantin Sidenko. First Rank Captain and submarine commander Oleg Nazarov gave explanations to the head of state.
