Stephen Harper congratulated Vladimir Putin on his election and on officially taking office as President of the Russian Federation.
During the conversation, both sides expressed satisfaction with the good prospects for further development of bilateral cooperation this year, which marks the 70th anniversary of Russian-Canadian relations. Both leaders expressed readiness to take active steps in this direction.
Mr Putin and Mr Harper exchanged views on current issues on the international agenda and discussed plans for future personal contacts.
