The President’s telegram reads, in part:
“This project has brought together the best cadets from many of our nation’s schools – a group of talented and enthusiastic young people. There are endless expanses of water ahead of you, as well as countless unforgettable encounters and experiences. During your expedition, you will trace the routes of outstanding Russian pioneers and researchers such as Ivan Kruzenshtern, Faddey Bellingshausen, Mikhail Lazarev, and Ferdinand Wrangel. You will be able to master the secrets of your future profession, applying your skills and knowledge to take on the traditions of maritime brotherhood.
I am confident that the Sedov’s world tour will contribute to exploring the world’s oceans, developing cooperation between maritime powers and strengthening friendly ties.”
The voyage around the world began in St Petersburg and will last 14 months. The Sedov four-masted barque is a sail training vessel, currently the largest in the world.
