In his congratulatory message Vladimir Putin stressed that Mexico is an important Latin American partner for Russia. He also expressed his satisfaction with how Russian-Mexican trade, economic, R&D, and humanitarian relations are developing.
Russia’s President singled out the need to increase and diversify trade, as well as to promote joint projects in various industries, including oil and gas where Russia and Mexico are leading producers and exporters, as priority tasks for bilateral cooperation.
The message made special mention of fruitful cooperation between Russia and Mexico at multilateral forums, particularly the UN. It also expressed President Putin’s desire to further develop the countries’ dialogue on pressing international issues, particularly with regards to the fight against terrorism, organised crime, drug trafficking, and other transnational challenges and threats.
Mr Putin also praised the results of Mexico's G20 presidency, which Russia assumes today.
The message from the Russian President was presented to Mr Pena Nieto by Nikolai Patrushev, Russia's Security Council secretary, who is on a visit to Mexico.
