The official greeting ceremony for the President of Russia took place prior to talks at the presidential palace.
Dmitry Medvedev and Nursultan Nazarbayev met privately. Then the heads of state continued talks with members of their official delegations.
At the talks the parties discussed the development of their trade and economic relations and identified the concrete steps required to deepen their cooperation in priority areas. In particular, they talked about the implementation of major infrastructure projects in the energy and nuclear sectors, cooperation in the field of nanotechnology, as well as the joint development and use of the Baikonur cosmodrome.
The main outcome of the meeting was the signing of a Joint Statement which outlines the development of Joint Action Plan for Russia and Kazakhstan for 2009–2010.
Intergovernmental agreements on cooperation in space exploration and the use of Russian Global Navigation Satellite System (GLONASS) were also signed in the presence of heads of state.
After the talks Dmitry Medvedev and Nursultan Nazarbayev gave a joint press conference.
