The main subject of discussion was various aspects of preparations for the upcoming G-20 summit in Washington, which will examine ways to overcome the global financial crisis.
Mr Medvedev noted the initiative Australia has taken in sending its proposals on overcoming the crisis to the participants in the upcoming meeting. Mr Rudd for his part gave a positive assessment of the proposals Russia has made in this area. An agreement was reached that government representatives of both countries would continue expert consultations over the time remaining before the Washington summit.
Mr Medvedev and Mr Rudd also said it was important to discuss economic issues at the APEC summit that will take place in Peru in the second half of November.
Both leaders gave a positive assessment of Russian-Australian relations and expressed a firm commitment to pursue their development.
