The President saw the Hero’s Star monument and Avenue of Heroes memorial complex, and laid flowers at the monument to Army General Vasily Margelov.
Mr Putin also laid a wreath at the monument to academy graduates killed in action. Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu and Airborne Forces Commander Vladimir Shamanov also took part in the ceremony. Those present honoured the memory of fallen defenders of the Fatherland with a minute’s silence.
At a ceremony later, the Suvorov Medal was presented to the General Margelov Ryazan Higher Airborne Command School.
During his visit to the academy, the President was shown the latest computer-based methods for officer training, and saw the classrooms where battle command simulation takes place.
