The message said, in part: “An urgent collective call for immediate compliance with the UN Security Council Resolution 1402 has helped to stop the escalating violence. But the situation remains tense and a relapse into confrontation cannot be ruled out. The main current task still remains full compliance with Resolution 1402”.
The message praised the results of the Arab summit in Beirut, stressed the importance of continued international efforts aimed at breaking the deadlock situation on the Palestinian territories, and expressed hope for an early implementation of the joint peace-keeping actions planned by the “quartet” of international mediators.
The message noted the need to move forward the processes of security and political settlement in parallel, to mobilise the efforts of the world community to bring humanitarian relief to the Palestinians.
“Russia as a co-sponsor of the Middle East peace process is ready to continue cooperating closely with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to stabilise the situation and bring about a resumption of the negotiating process,” the President’s message stressed.
Mr Putin has confirmed the invitation to the King of Saudi Arabia to come to the Russian Federation on an official visit.
