President Vladimir Putin sent Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev a telegram on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance between the two countries

May 25, 2002
00:00

The message said, in part:

“The past period has convincingly proved that the treaty does not only meet the historical traditions of friendship and the vital interests of our fraternal peoples, but creates a solid legal basis for the consistent development of mutually beneficial relations.

“Over these years the Russian-Kazakh cooperation has attained a qualitatively new level and acquired the character of a stable strategic partnership. Today Russia and Kazakhstan are active participants and reliable allies in solving the large-scale tasks of strengthening international peace and ensuring security and stability in the Central Asian region.

“The extensive experience of constructive political dialogue accumulated by our countries has considerable relevance for the strengthening of integration processes in the Eurasian economic community, the consolidation of the Collective Security Treaty and the Commonwealth of Independent States as a whole, and the establishment of close interaction in the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.

“I am convinced that through common efforts we will be able to further build encompassing links between Russia and Kazakhstan on an equal and mutually beneficial basis, to create the conditions for a decent life for the present and future generations of our peoples.”
