Mr Voronin informed Mr Putin of the Moldovan efforts to achieve an early solution to the Transdnestrian issue by formulating the status of the region based on a draft proposed by the OSCE and intermediaries in the negotiations between Chisinau and Tiraspol.
They discussed the economic aspects of Russian-Moldovan relations, pointed to the importance of regulating cooperation in the power and gas industries and issues related to it, and improving the free trade regime between the two countries.
The discussion also covered coordinating efforts in the humanitarian field and the development of inter-regional cooperation.
The Moldovan President praised Russia’s efforts to dispose of and remove its military equipment from Moldova’s territory.
The Moldovan head of state expressed support for Russia’s stand on countering the main threats to international security and voiced his country’s intention to support the Russian leadership’s related efforts within international and regional organisations.
