Mr Putin and Mr Zorin discussed the results of the national census, which was held on October 9–16.
According to preliminary data, the population of Russia was over 145 million people. Population growth was registered in the Central and Southern Federal Districts, in particular, in Moscow, the Krasnodar Territory, Dagestan and Chechnya. At the same time, a significant decline was registered in many regions, which was compensated for primarily by migrants. For the last 10 years, over 7 million people moved to Russia and over 27 million moved from one place to another within the country.
Mr Putin instructed the Minister to adjust the federal programmes for national and migration policies with regard to the census results.
