The congratulatory telegram read, in part:
”All these years, archivists, like real men of faith, have conserved our national memory and priceless relics of the Fatherland, the documentary evidence of our country’s thousand-year history and its contemporary life.
Today, in an era of rapid technological development and the growth of an impressive array of information, archives are still indispensable and complete informative and socially meaningful work. And their openness and accessibility are essential for the proper functioning of government institutions, and the development of science, culture and education“.
The Archive Service of Russia includes more than 2400 archives, from federal to municipal ones. They contain more than 200 million documents and artifacts. Particularly valuable objects of Russia’s cultural heritage are housed in six of them: the Archive of Ancient Acts, the Historical Archive, the Military Historical Archive, the Archive of Literature and Art, the Russian State Documentary Film and Photo Archive and the Russian State Historical Archive.
