The session discussed the results of a meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State of Russia and Belarus held in Minsk on January 20.
President Putin noted that the main result of the meeting was an agreement reached on the use of the Russian rouble as the union’s single currency starting January 1, 2005. A uniform monetary policy is the main prerequisite for creating a single economic space, without which it would be impossible to continue building the union, he said. He called on the Government to participate in implementing joint Russian-Belarusian economic projects.
The session participants also discussed preparations for the Russian President’s forthcoming visit to Bulgaria.
