Mr Gainutdin briefed the President on his meeting with the Secretary-General of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference, during which they discussed the problems facing Russian Muslims and the situation in Chechnya.
Mr Putin and Mr Gainutdin also discussed the prospects of a referendum to be held in Chechnya.
