April 26, 2003
00:00

The message said, in part:

“The Arctic is the northernmost part of the globe, where nature has created unique conditions for large-scale research and experiments. It is extremely important that after a twelve-year break, Russian scientists are back at the North Pole to carry on the remarkable traditions established by several generations of legendary Arctic explorers.

“I am sure that your work will make a tremendous contribution to Russian science and help tackle a wide range of practical tasks.”
