The meeting of the leaders of Russia, France, the U.S., Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Canada and Japan took place in the French city of Evian

Meeting of G8 heads of state.
Meeting of G8 heads of state.

The summit showed that the problem of strengthening the system of non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and means for their transportation, is a key topic in international relations.

Along with the final statement by the head of the summit, three declarations and eight plans of action were passed which propose solutions to a number of the most urgent and complex problems of the modern world, such as the war on international terrorism, strengthening the system of non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, ensuring the growth of the international economy, providing aid to Africa, putting an end to famine, providing the world’s population with access to water resources, supporting science and strengthening the international health system, and ensuring safety to water transport. The approaches to these issues elaborated in G8 documents are designed to provide a powerful stimulus to the work of international organisations, and bilateral and multilateral cooperation programmes.

The summit was a reflection of the multipolarity of the modern world that currently exists, and the common desire to solve problems of the international community through consulations and reaching mutual understanding with partners.
