Russia’s Ambassador to Iraq Vladimir Titorenko, Minister-Counsellor Alexander Kinshchak, Counsellor Ilya Morgunov and driver Vladimir Arkhipov were awarded the Order of Courage for the courage and bravery shown while performing their duties.
Senior specialist Yevgeny Batagov (head of the reference department), maintenance worker Andrei Kudinov and 1st category specialist Roman Yudanov were awarded the Medal for Bravery.
On April 6, when staff of the Russian embassy in Iraq were leaving Baghdad following the start of a US and UK military operation against Saddam Hussein’s regime, their motor convoy was fired upon while travelling to the Syrian border. Four people were injured.
