In the message to the Canadian Prime Minister, Vladimir Putin wrote, in part:
“Availing myself of this opportunity, I would like to express satisfaction with the dynamic development of Russian-Canadian relations. With your active participation the partner interaction between our countries is growing in different areas, including efforts against terrorism and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, the strengthening of UN authority and cooperation in the Arctic.”
The message addressed to the Governor General of Canada read, in part:
“I am pleased with the progressive development of Russian-Canadian relations and the growing partner interaction between our countries in different areas. Russia and Canada have much in common – a federative structure and a vast territory, neighbourly cooperation in the Arctic and similar approaches to solving key international problems. This largely determines the character and dynamics of our bilateral cooperation.
“I am sure that your upcoming visit to Russia will be meaningful and fruitful, and will further promote friendship between the peoples of Russia and Canada.”
