Mr Putin thanked the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church for supporting Russia’s guest participation in the summit of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC).
The support of the Russian Orthodox Church meant that religions established in Russia stayed true to their praiseworthy traditions of cooperation and mutual support, which promote interreligious peace, the President said.
He stressed that Russia’s participation in the activities of the OIC provided Russian Muslims a channel for contact with authoritative international Muslim organisations.
He passed Patriarch Alexii II a message from representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, whom he met in New York City during his visit to the United States.
