The telegram reads, in part:

It is a fitting and important crowning of many years of work of the Chinese people, your country’s successful movement along the path of all-round development and its emergence as a modern world power.
“We are convinced that full participation of the PRC in the family of space nations will serve the cause of preserving peace, security and stability on Earth, the development of science and technology and progress of the world civilization.
“Russian-Chinese cooperation in space is an important area of bilateral relations. It is proceeding successfully, has a good future and will undoubtedly bear more fruit for the benefit of our two peoples.
“Please convey congratulations and good wishes to all those who have contributed to building the manned spaceship and, of course, to the first Chinese cosmonaut.”
