The telegram sent by the head of state reads, in part:
“Your indefatigable work for the cause of peace and justice and in asserting universal human values is greatly appreciated by the international community.
“I am convinced that the further development of the relations between Russia and the Vatican, the positive dynamics of the political dialogue between them based on our similar approaches to the key problems of the present time will continue to contribute to the building of a greater peace, based on the ideals of solidarity and humanism. I hope to be able to discuss with you the prospects of bilateral ties and interaction between Russia and the Vatican in international affairs during our forthcoming meeting in November.
“Your Holiness, I wish you good health and success in your noble and arduous mission.”
