Opening the meeting Mr Putin stressed that contacts with the Lebanese leadership were becoming regular, which was of special importance since Lebanon played an active part in the events in the Middle East.
The Russian President briefed Mr Hariri on Russia’s efforts to normalize the situation and the results of his meetings with American and European partners.
Mr Putin also expressed gratitude to Lebanon for supporting Russia’s participation in a summit of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference.
For his part, Mr Hariri indicated that Russia’s presence at the summit of the Islamic Conference was a very constructive and positive factor that promoted dialogue between civilizations in the interests of strengthening mutual understanding.
