The Russian President recognized some constructive proposals from the veterans, in particular on the need to hold research seminars and conduct activities to explain the events of the Second World War and the role of the USSR and the Allies in achieving the Great Victory. Unfortunately, he noted, we today see many attempts to revise the assessment of some historical events, with some people calling the Holocaust into question, and some downplaying the role of the Soviet Union in the defeat of Nazism. Vladimir Putin thinks it is necessary to put the true story which would be reflected, among other things, in school textbooks.
The head of state said that he was about to sign a directive to create a task force to prepare the celebrations of the 60th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
Vladimir Putin also plans to instruct the Government to revisit the issue of fulfillment of the federal programme on rehabilitation of persons who have been wounded in combat.
