One of the icons, St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, belongs to the Moscow school, the other one, the Last Judgment, to the Novgorod school. Both were legally sold by the Soviet Government in the 1930s; now they have been bought back and brought to Russia. The President said these were the icons which Russian people had prayed to for centuries.
The meeting was attended by Petros VII, the Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and all Africa.
