The average age of scientific researchers working in Russia today is 49, and the average age of doctorate degree holders is 53, Mr Putin said at a meeting of the Council for Science and High Technology.
The President also drew attention to the issue of career growth for young scientists, noting that science and technology specialists do not always see a direct link between the results they achieve in their work and how their career advances. Career advancement should be systematically based on scientists’ real contribution to research, Mr Putin said.
The President stressed that the state must ensure equal access to education for all if it is to train young scientists. All Russian citizens, no matter what their financial situation and where they live, should have the opportunity to study, discover their talents and fulfil their potential, Mr Putin said.
