Taking part in the special session of the Eurasian Economic Community (EurAsEC) Interstate Council were President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of Kyrgyzstan Kurmanbek Bakiev, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rakhmon, President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan (Armenia has observer status in EurAsEC), and Secretary General of EurAsEC Tair Mansurov.

The heads of state of the organisation’s member countries signed an agreement on establishing the EurAsEC Anti-Crisis Fund with funds of $10 billion. Russia will contribute $7.5 billion, and Kazakhstan will contribute $1 billion. The other member countries will decide on their share in the fund over the coming month. The fund is being created to help overcome the world economic crisis’ negative effects on member countries’ economies and finances.

The next EurAsEC summit will take place in Minsk.

EurAsEC was founded in 2000 by five countries – Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan. Uzbekistan joined the organization in 2006, but suspended its membership in late 2008.
