Speaking at the forum of peoples of the Caucasus and Southern Russia, Mr Putin noted that stability in Chechnya is a vital factor for the southern part of the country’s successful development. Resolving cultural, religious and interethnic issues is only possible if the economy is developing.

The President emphasised that Chechnya offers plentiful opportunities for creating small businesses and developing transport corridors, agriculture and health and holiday resorts.

Mr Putin reminded the forum’s participants of Imam Shamil’s testament to his sons. Imam Shamil called upon his sons to remain loyal to the Russian state and to live in peace and harmony with its peoples.
