The message said, in part:
“I hope you will agree that Russian-Chilean relations are currently becoming stronger. The fact that Moscow and Santiago have similar or identical approaches to most world and regional issues provides a favourable basis for the deepening of cooperation between our countries in the global arena. Russia and Chile support a just multi-polar world order, a collective search for solutions to acute problems and a stronger central role of the UN in maintaining peace.
“The legislatures of our countries are making a tangible contribution to the development of trust and partnership. We hope that the traditions of sustained inter-parliamentary links, as exemplified by the visit of the Russian delegation, will be multiplied.
“There are real prospects for increasing trade and economic relations between our two countries, and for cooperation in the fields of high technology, aerospace and peaceful uses of nuclear energy. We see the progressive development of the Russian and Chilean economies and their internal political stability as a guarantee of progress along that path.
“Our cooperation within the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum is highly promising. It is undoubtedly a significant area that opens up further opportunities of cooperation, including in the trade and economic sphere.
“I wish you success in tackling the challenging tasks facing your country as President of APEC.”
The message was delivered on behalf of the Russian President by the Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Sergei Mironov, who was in Chile on an official visit.
