Meeting in Sochi, President Vladimir Putin and President of Tajikistan Emomali Rakhmonov reached an agreement on giving Russia the rights to free and unlimited use of territory for a military base. Russia will also obtain the use of the Nurek missile attack early warning space tracking system.
The two countries also agreed on changing the status of the Russian border guards in Tajikistan. An operative border guards group will be formed whose duties will include assisting its Tajik colleagues in combating drug trafficking, preventing the possible infiltration of rebel fighters and resolving other tasks.
