President Vladimir Putin, formulating Russia’s position on this problem, noted that on the whole, Russia supports the idea of reforms in the Middle East, if they initiated by the countries of this region themselves in accordance with their interests and implemented by their governments.
Russia has not changed its position on a possible financial contribution to reforms in the Middle East, and does not rule out the possibility of participating in financing programmes where it is clear who the recipient is and what funds will be spent on.
At a summit meeting, the Russian side pointed out the necessity for transparency of movement of the enormous resources concentrated in the Middle East, to ensure that they are not used to finance extremism.
