President Vladimir Putin said that there was a recurrence of conflicts in Georgia that arose after the collapse of the USSR. These conflicts need to be regulated by peaceful means, without threats.
Russia is prepared to make an adequate contribution to restoring the territorial integrity of Georgia, acting as an intermediary and guarantor of agreements. It is necessary to hold talks to create an atmosphere of peace and stability, and Russia will do everything it can to assist in this, Mr Putin said.
At a press conference on the results of talks with Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma, there was also discussion of the prospects of development of Russian-Ukrainian relations, the formation of the Common Economic Space, and other relevant issues of bilateral relations.
