The meeting examined the problem of drugs trafficking from Afghanistan.
Mr Putin stressed the need to step up cooperation with Western partners participating in the international force in Afghanistan, combine efforts and use every possibility to neutralise the drugs threat coming from the country.
Mr Cherkesov informed the President on the results of large scale operations carried out this September by the law enforcement agencies of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation countries. These operations successfully managed to shut down several channels for bringing Afghan drugs into Russia and improved the situation in several transit directions.
