The message notes, in particular:
“The main task now is to ensure that the international community’s efforts to provide aid to the affected regions are coordinated with maximum effectiveness.
I believe that the United Nations, its specialised agencies and the international financial institutions should play the central part in organising this work. At the same time, the G-8, as the group uniting the world’s leading industrialised nations, who are also the biggest donors in liquidating the consequences of this catastrophe, can and should use all its authority and influence to support the international community’s efforts”.
