Speaking at the press conference, Mr Putin said that the talks with his Ukrainian counterpart took place in an open and positive spirit.
The President said he hoped that the new Ukrainian leadership would ensure a continuation of work already begun in cooperation between the two countries, including regarding the issue of a gas transport consortium.
Mr Yushchenko, for his part, declared that Russia has unique possibilities in the energy sector, while Ukraine has a unique transport system, and this will enable the two countries to develop together and take each other’s interests into account.
